Art is a powerful form of self-expression and an effective way to illustrate emotions, frustration and opinions. One San Jose organization echoes this belief through its current art gallery, while raising awareness about cultural resilience and gentrification in Latin American communities."
"The exhibition, There Are New Suns, features artwork from three Mexican American artists with South Bay roots. The interactive gallery is put on by Movimiento de Arte y Cultura Latino Americana (MACLA) at its gallery in downtown San Jose. The show runs through Nov. 9. Cecilia Perez's artwork, based on downtown San Jose, is part of MACLA's new exhibition, There Are New Suns, on display through Nov. 9, 2025. (Angelique Alvarez Martinez/Mosaic)"
MACLA in downtown San Jose presents There Are New Suns, an interactive gallery running through Nov. 9, 2025, featuring work by three Mexican American artists with South Bay roots. The artists use varied mediums to examine cultural resilience and the local impacts of gentrification. Cecilia Perez creates pieces based on downtown San Jose, Samantha Saldana addresses gentrification and neighborhood change, and Claudia Blanco contributes wall sculptures. MACLA aims to support Latin American cultures and the community through art and to spread awareness about gentrification, whose effects can displace original residents due to rising housing costs. Natalia Torres greets visitors weekly and informs them about the exhibition.
