Hamlin wins pole for NASCAR's playoff finale
""I think the benefit was winning in Vegas because I was able to get so much work done before this week. That way this week is not crammed so much,""
""Been treating it really just like I would any other Phoenix week. There's not much different other than there's just more people truthfully,""
""No whammy!""
""You can only help the things that you can control," he said. "Obviously, we'll just do the best we can for 312 laps. I hope it's enough.""
Denny Hamlin, in his 20th full season, won the pole at Phoenix Raceway for the winner-take-all NASCAR championship finale. The Cup will go to the highest finisher among Hamlin, teammate Chase Briscoe, and Hendrick Motorsports drivers William Byron and Kyle Larson. Hamlin led the season with six victories and notched his 60th career win at Las Vegas, which secured his spot in the finale and allowed extra preparation time. He arrived relaxed and joking, treating the week like any other despite larger crowds and an entourage of about 30 friends and family. The pole gives first choice of pit stall and could curb speeding penalties. Hamlin emphasized focusing on controllable factors and hopes 312 laps will be enough.
