Ja Morant struggled in a 117-112 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers, shooting 3-for-14 overall and 0-for-6 from three-point range and finishing with eight points. He told reporters to "go ask the coaching staff" when asked about his performance and repeated similar responses multiple times. When pressed about what could have been done differently, he said, "According to them, probably don't play me, honestly," and added, "That's basically what the message was after [the game]. It's cool." Morant is averaging 20.8 points and 6.7 assists while logging a career-low 28.5 minutes through six games under coach Tuomas Iisalo.
