Anonymous White House sources attributed recent GOP losses to voters feeling that promises were unmet and that the president had not focused on cost-of-living concerns. Sources said voters expected lower costs and more money back into their pockets but do not feel those results. One source warned that heavy emphasis on foreign policy while people struggle domestically produced predictable off-year results. Campaign deputy James Blair called the problems overcomeable, proposing targeted resources for key districts and promising more emphasis on cost-of-living messaging into the new year. Blair said economic turnarounds take time but that fundamentals support improvement.
