But the choice for devs to bounce back with something new and smaller is becoming a familiar refrain in the games industry after several years of layoffs and cancelations."
Justin Fischer and Brock Feldman left MultiVersus to form Airlock Games, an independent studio. Fischer served as production director and Feldman as technical director on the platform brawler. Airlock Games' first project is What the Stars Forgot, a sci-fi sim management horror. The studio plans a Kickstarter campaign to fund development and aims for an early access launch in December. MultiVersus was acquired by WB Games and was shuttered in May at the close of its fifth season. Many developers are moving to smaller independent projects after layoffs, cancellations, and cost-cutting by larger companies.
