Perron moves on, as Bloc Quebecois taps new ag critic
"The Bloc Quebecois has a new point person for agriculture. Sébastien Lemire, MP for the western Quebec riding of Abitibi-Témiscamingue, was named the party's critic for agriculture, agri-food, and supply management this week. He replaces Yves Perron, who has served as the party's ag critic and an active member of the House of Commons' agriculture committee going back to 2020."
"A vocal advocate for Quebec farmers and provincial autonomy in ag policy, Perron was a proponent of stronger farm support programs and the federal grocery code of conduct. He was also the sponsor for Bill C-202, the legislation passed in 2025 aimed at protecting supply management in future trade negotiations."
""Agriculture and agri-food issues have always been close to my heart, and I'm especially excited to be able to take my commitment to local farmers and farmers, as well as various agri-food stakeholders, to another level," said Lemire, in a post on social media featuring a photo of him and Perron holding glasses of milk."
Sébastien Lemire, MP for Abitibi-Témiscamingue, was named Bloc Québécois critic for agriculture, agri-food, and supply management and also becomes vice-chair of the House of Commons agriculture committee. He replaces Yves Perron, who had served as the party's agriculture critic and an active committee member since 2020. Perron advocated for Quebec farmers, provincial autonomy, stronger farm support programs, and a federal grocery code of conduct, and he sponsored Bill C-202, passed in 2025 to protect supply management in future trade negotiations. Lemire previously worked in communications for Quebec's general farm organization UPA and in financial services for Desjardins. The committee has five Liberals, four Conservatives, and one Bloc MP.
