The new iPhone call screening feature is like having your own receptionist
"I deleted my third-party call filtering app on Tuesday after updating my iPhone 15 to iOS 26. I was looking forward to testing out a new way to filter my calls, but first, I had to learn how Apple's filtering worked on my iPhone 14 Pro Max. In the Settings app, I found the new call screening and filtering options that can be adjusted to your preferences. It worked similarly to the app I previously used, which was powered by my phone carrier."
"In Apple's, you can choose one of the following: Never: Call Screening is turned off, and your iPhone will ring when you receive a call from an unsaved number. Ask Reason for Calling: Calls from unknown numbers will be asked for more information before the iPhone rings. Silence: Calls from unsaved numbers will be silenced, sent to voicemail, and appear in the Recents list."
iOS 26 introduces a call screening feature that handles unknown numbers by allowing calls to be silenced, sent to voicemail, or require callers to state their reason before the phone rings. Settings include Never, Ask Reason for Calling, and Silence. The feature mirrors functionality offered by some carrier-powered third-party apps. After updating and removing a prior filtering app, a tester configured Ask Reason and directed suspected spam to voicemail in a separate folder. Over three days no spam calls were received, but multiple unknown-number calls still arrived, including a call from a gas company that triggered the screening.
