AWS has announced that its government cloud service has achieved FedRAMP High and Department of Defense Impact Level 4 and 5 authorizations to host AI software from key companies Anthropic and Meta. Their AI models, Claude and Llama, are now certified to operate in federal environments handling sensitive, unclassified data. This enables public sector customers, particularly within the Department of Defense, to utilize these powerful AI tools for mission-critical applications securely. Moreover, AWS is preparing to launch a new Secret-West Region cloud service for classified information by late 2025, further enhancing its offerings.
This achievement allows Meta's open source Llama models to power mission-critical applications in secure or disconnected environments at a lower cost.
This authorization opens new possibilities for responsible AI use in scenarios where both performance and security are essential for serving the public interest.
