Jorge R. Gutierrez announced Punky Duck as one of three new AI-generated animated series launched by Amazon, but backlash followed. Two days later, he posted that he decided to drop out of the AI program at Amazon, apologizing to those he upset and stating his intent was to showcase artists inside and outside studios. Guillermo del Toro promoted his Mexican stop-motion film I Am Frankelda and emphasized that animated films are “made by humans for humans.” Punky Duck is part of a trilogy from Amazon’s AI Creators’ Fund, alongside Love and Diana Music Hunters, which resembles another property.
"I have decided to drop out of the AI program at Amazon," posted Gutierrez. "My intent was to showcase artists, both new and seasoned, both inside and outside the studios, driving this new tech. My sincerest apology to those I upset. I promise to do better moving forward. Thank you for your patience with me. I will try harder."
"We are working hard on BURIED GIANT. We have a lot of experimentation ahead. But this entire community never gives up- never abandons its faith: Made by humans for humans. Whomever joins this adventure is doing the animation Gods' work. https://t.co/UP7YEs0tau"
