Gartner: 'AI is not doing its job and should leave us alone'
Briefly

Erick Brethenoux, Gartner's global chief of AI research, criticized the inefficiency of current AI implementations during the Data & Analytics Summit. He urged AI to automate tedious tasks instead of merely summarizing meetings. Brethenoux highlighted successful examples of 'Empathy AI' from companies like Vizient, where automation led to instant adoption by employees, underlining the need for AI to actively perform rather than suggest. He warned that while enterprise tech vendors advocate for AI-driven automation, technology buyers should be cautious and discerning.
"I don't have time to do the five actions in the summary... I know what I have to do."
"Just go and do it already," he said, and called for AI to simplify users' lives by automatically performing tiresome tasks.
"Instant adoption, zero change management problems," Brethenoux said. Employees then bought in to AI and started to make good suggestions for further AI-enabled automation.
Brethenoux thinks tech buyers must take that vision with a large pinch of salt.
