7 things to do in NYC this weekend, Jan. 30 to Feb. 1
"With the bone-chilling temps this weekend, there may be no better time to catch Disney on Ice. This year's show features beloved Disney characters, world-class ice skating, aerial acrobatics and music to sing along to. The interactive show features Mickey Mouse and friends on an adventure to save Tinker Bell from the pirates by using Captain Hook's treasure map. Along the way, they must fill up the magic meter and find missing items across the worlds of "Coco," "Moana," "Frozen," "Toy Story" and "Beauty and the Beast." The family is invited in to help with the search"
"The 17th season of the festival features Tony winner Nikiya Mathis ("Jaja's African Hair Braiding") as a member of the underfunded Black Superhero League in Preston Crowder 's satire "Black to Save the Day." Directed by Ken-Matt Martin, the humorous work is just one of many 10-minute plays showcasing the works of African and African-American playwrights. Malik Childs, Naomi Lorrain, Victor Musoni and Kareem Lucas also star in plays created by Teniia Micazia Brown, Mo Holmes, Naomi Lorrain, DeLane McDuffie, and Donathan Walters, whose works tackle family secrets, community, caretaking and relationships."
Disney On Ice presents Mickey's Search Party at Barclays Center through Feb. 1 with multiple showtimes, featuring beloved Disney characters, world-class ice skating, aerial acrobatics, sing-along music, and interactive audience participation. The plot follows Mickey and friends using Captain Hook's treasure map to save Tinker Bell and recover missing items across Coco, Moana, Frozen, Toy Story and Beauty and the Beast. Tickets start at $25 plus fees. The Apollo Stages at The Victoria runs a festival through Jan. 31 showcasing ten-minute plays by African and African-American playwrights that explore family secrets, community, caretaking and relationships.
