"Cooper and Rosenwasser have spent half a century quietly assembling one of the Bay Area's finest private art collections and one of the country's largest devoted exclusively to women artists."
"It's pretty overwhelming to think that what we were just collecting for ourselves is now on the walls of a museum, said Cooper. I'm still trying to adjust to it!"
"Rhapsody: Works from the Cooper Rosenwasser Collection shows at BAMPFA through June 28. This marks the first time the collection has been displayed outside the couple's home."
"Both women had been immersed in art during their formative years: Cooper through a close relationship with her two brothers, who were both working artists, and Rosenwasser through her upbringing in New York City."
Penny Cooper and Rena Rosenwasser have assembled one of the largest private art collections in the U.S. dedicated to women artists over fifty years. Their collection is currently showcased in the exhibition Rhapsody: Works from the Cooper Rosenwasser Collection at BAMPFA until June 28. This marks the first public display of their collection, coinciding with their donation of nearly 150 artworks to the museum. The exhibition celebrates both their artistic journey and the 50th anniversary of their partnership, highlighting their deep connection to art and each other.
