Amy Lewin's Vision for Oregon Arts * Oregon ArtsWatch
"I'm a lifelong Oregonian,"
"My entire life has been touched by the work of both the Arts Commission, and half my life for the Cultural Trust."
"As a person who has been here my whole life, I've learned how captivating it can be to see your first theatrical performance and see the safety of emotion expressed on stage in this intimate, but powerful way that redefines what it means to be in community,"
"I'm married to someone who moved to Oregon to be a designer in the footwear industry, part of this incredible community of creatives who have relocated to the state in the last 30 years."
Amy Lewin is the new director of both the Oregon Arts Commission and the Oregon Cultural Trust, agencies administered under Business Oregon. Both agencies face potential state budget cuts and threats to federal arts funding, creating a challenging environment. Lewin grew up in a rural community east of Eugene and experienced the Oregon Shakespeare Festival through school field trips. She is married to a footwear designer who relocated to Oregon and raised a daughter who is now in art school in New York. Lewin emphasizes listening to learn what the agencies and the arts community need and aims to build creative community across the state. She succeeds longtime director Brian Rogers.
