The Trump Administration has officially targeted the National Endowment for the Arts by rescinding previously awarded funding. This action was anticipated by the Film Festival Alliance (FFA) and other art organizations. In response, FFA Executive Director Barbara Twist advised members to submit grant-related expenses promptly. The alliance has now provided guidance on how to appeal terminations of funds. Additionally, they aim to gather data on affected entities to showcase the widespread impact of these funding cuts. Organizations are reminded to check deadlines and eligibility for appeals while adjusting their project scopes accordingly.
This was a circumstance that Film Festival Alliance and other organizations have been preparing for since Trump took office in January. FFA Executive Director Barbara Twist wrote in an email to member organizations earlier this year about submitting grant-covered expenses as soon as possible or even limiting the scope of projects to make sure they could be covered sooner.
Twist and FFA have written up new guidance for how to appeal a potential termination of funds. This was shared Sunday, May 4 with FFA members... If you've received a termination notice or notice of withdrawn funding recommendation from the National Endowment for the Arts...follow this unofficial step-by-step guide to understand what actions you need to take.
Stay tuned for a link to help collect data regarding terminations and withdrawn offers...This will be a useful tool for demonstrating the broad impact of these terminations/withdrawn offers.
If you believe your project does support one of the new NEA funding priorities, you can appeal the termination within 7 calendar days from the notice.
