Tourism Protests Are Expected in Major European Cities This Weekend
Briefly

A series of anti-tourism protests featuring local residents spraying tourists with water guns are scheduled for June 15 in popular European destinations like Barcelona, Ibiza, and Palma. The protests, organized by the Southern European Network Against Touristification (SET), aim to highlight the negative impacts of mass tourism on housing and local communities. Initiated in 2024, this movement seeks to prompt political action to curb the effects of tourism in affected cities. Tourists have been forewarned to prepare for disruptions during this event, especially in major tourist hotspots.
"Tourists have been warned of potential disruptions caused by activist groups preparing a large-scale protest for June 15th," says Pablo Calvo, Spain Manager for travel operator Tours For You.
"The demonstration, organized by the Southern European Network Against Touristification (SET), will focus on major Spanish destinations, such as the Canary Islands and the Balearic Islands."
