"Prior's reimagining of Handel's Water Music includes a 'Sarabande in G,' inspired by the original, featuring glissandos for trombones and isolated orchestral passages."
"The 'Overture in F' presented springy, ebullient sounds, showcasing Prior's ability to blend traditional elements with modern orchestral techniques."
Alex Prior, Music Director of the Eugene Symphony, reimagined selections from Handel's Water Music, resulting in Four Extractions of Water Musick. This modern orchestral arrangement features instruments not available in Handel's time. The concert opened with a humorous introduction by Prior, who dedicated the performance to the late conductor Michael Tilson Thomas. Prior selected four movements from the original eighteen, rearranging their sequence and incorporating contemporary techniques, such as glissandos and isolated passages, to enhance the lively and engaging experience for the audience.
