FFWD Third-Generation TYRO Carbon Wheelset Has Wider Rim & New N/LITE Hubs
"The biggest update is the rim itself. The new TYRO uses a 45mm-deep full-carbon clincher rim with a 23mm internal width and 31mm external width. That wider internal measurement reflects where modern road and all-road setups have headed over the last few years. A wider rim supports larger tires and helps them maintain a more stable, rounded profile."
"The 45mm depth remains a balanced middle ground. It's deep enough to deliver noticeable aerodynamic gains on faster road rides while still being predictable when the wind picks up. FFWD shapes the rim using its AeroShape profile, intended to smooth airflow while maintaining stable handling in crosswinds."
"The wider internal rim width of 23mm (31mm outer) pairs particularly well with the now-common 28-32mm road tires. Though riders looking to venture onto rough pavement or light gravel can comfortably step up to the high-30mm or even low-40mm range."
FFWD has released the third generation of its TYRO carbon wheelset, designed as an accessible entry point to performance cycling. The updated wheels feature a 45mm-deep full-carbon clincher rim with a 23mm internal width and 31mm external width, accommodating tire sizes from 25mm to 45mm. This wider rim profile supports modern tire sizing and extends the wheelset's versatility into all-road and gravel applications. The 45mm depth provides aerodynamic benefits while maintaining predictable handling in crosswinds through FFWD's AeroShape profile. A newly developed in-house N/LITE hub platform replaces the previous design, contributing to modest weight reductions. These improvements enhance real-world usability and versatility without increasing the original price.
