Stage 20 of the Tour de France concluded with a minor yet thrilling competition for 10th place rather than the General Classification. Tadej Pogačar held a significant lead over Jonas Vingegaard before the stage, indicating little chance for a major GC battle. Ben O'Connor, starting in 10th, had a change of heart regarding placing after a commitment to team strategy. As the stage progressed, O'Connor's team, Jayco AlUla, became frustrated when others did not increase the pace to catch up with Jordan Jegat, ultimately resulting in Jegat securing 10th position ahead of O'Connor.
In the enduring peculiarity of the Tour de France, there was actually a small fight - and a change of placings - on the road to Pontarlier on Saturday.
Ben O'Connor started the stage in 10th... given he had started with a GC focus, then gave up on that after a crash hampered his performance in the first week.
Suddenly, Jayco AlUla were pulling on the front in the finale, trying to limit the gap to Jegat, and becoming visibly frustrated when no one else wanted to up the pace in the peloton.
In the end, Jegat finished six minutes ahead of the cruising peloton, enough to push him up the rankings in 10th, and force O'Connor out by less than two minutes.
