VO Nouveau Randonneur Drop Bar Review: a Fantastic and Affordable Choice
"Velo Orange has a drop bar that I find very good. It's called the Nouveau Randonneur Handlbar, and it's pretty close to perfect. Sometimes, finding the right drop handlebars for a build can be a bit of trial and error. I mean, most of us can use the bar's reach and the bike's geo to figure stem length and find the right bar. But sometimes, that doesn't work, or something just feels off. That's how it was when I built up my Wilde Rambler SL."
"When I built the Rambler up, I used my 51cm Tumbleweed Big Dipper bar that I had on hand. After all, it worked great on my last gravel bike. And, I am an advocate for wide handlebars. But, for some reason, after the first 100 miles or so, the Big Dipper was just feeling too wide on the Rambler. So I went on the hunt."
The Wilde Rambler SL was initially fitted with a 51cm Tumbleweed Big Dipper bar, which felt too wide after roughly 100 miles. Replacement criteria required a backsweep of at least 6 degrees to increase comfort on the flats. A Velo Orange Nouveau Randonneur bar with a 6-degree backsweep was selected and installed. The bar features a short 85mm reach, an ovalized top, a mellow backsweep, and 12 degrees of flare. Those proportions increase comfort during flat riding and provided a better fit for the Rambler compared with the previous wider bar.
