Rhode Island bill proposes 24-hour bar hours during World Cup
""At its core this is about recognizing the once-in-a-generation moment for the largest sporting event in the world and to make sure Rhode Island is ready to meet it," Giraldo told members of the House Municipal Government Committee."
""This [bill] was designed to be a tool, and one that's temporary, targeted and tied to a specific global event that won't come back into this region for decades," Giraldo said at the hearing."
Rhode Island lawmakers are evaluating a bill that would permit restaurants and bars to operate 24 hours a day from June 11 to July 19 for the World Cup. The legislation, introduced by Representative Josh Giraldo, aims to boost business and tourism. There would be a one-hour pause in alcohol service daily, and businesses would not need to apply or pay fees for extended hours. Local cities and towns can opt out or set their own limits on participation.
