Suffolk County police conducted a traffic stop on a 2008 Honda Accord on Lexington Avenue in Central Islip early Tuesday morning after observing erratic driving. Officers discovered two homemade Molotov cocktails inside the vehicle. Three Salvadoran nationals—Lorenzo Alvarado-Navarrete, 18, Elvis Romero-Martinez, 20, and Albert Yanes-Moran, 20—were arrested and charged with third-degree criminal possession of a weapon. Romero-Martinez, the driver, also received multiple traffic summonses. Police did not disclose the reason for possessing the incendiary devices but confirmed the incident was not terrorism-related. Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney stated the case would be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. All three suspects were scheduled for arraignment on Wednesday.
