On January 28 at 8:46 p.m., a driver with New Jersey license plates repeatedly rammed a vehicle into the doorway of 770 Eastern Parkway in Crown Heights, destroying the wooden front doors. Community members watched as the driver reversed and accelerated forward multiple times. The Chabad Lubavitch World Headquarters was evacuated and witnesses said the driver yelled for people to move as he drove in. After several minutes the driver exited and told a responding officer, "it slipped," then was taken into custody. NYPD Emergency Service Unit and Bomb Squad responded; the vehicle was swept and cleared with no explosives found. The NYPD Hate Crimes Task Force is investigating and there are no reported injuries.
