Knife-Wielding Man Attacks NYPD Cop In Brooklyn, Shot Dead: Officials
"Every day, our officers put on these uniforms, they encounter dangerous situations out in the street, But it's another kind of danger when someone comes directly into a precinct armed with a knife and attacks our officers. This is the risk that every member of the NYPD faces every single day to keep this city safe."
"She is going to recover and is in good spirits,"
A man armed with a butcher knife entered the 73rd Precinct station house in Brownsville early Sunday after first attempting to open a locked vestibule door. He accessed a rear door restricted to NYPD personnel, where he slashed an officer across the face; the officer fought him off and was later treated and expected to recover. Officers chased the suspect to Saratoga Avenue, where a stun gun failed to subdue him and he repeatedly ignored commands before lunging at officers. Police opened fire, striking him multiple times. Body and surveillance cameras captured the incident and a roughly 14-inch knife was recovered. The attacker was taken to Brookdale Hospital and pronounced dead.
