Vincent LeVien, along with his family, initially intended to attend the canonization of a teenage saint in Rome but found themselves joining the global mourning for Pope Francis. Upon learning of his death, the family decided to continue their journey, viewing it as spiritually significant despite the unexpected turn of events. LeVien, who had previously met the Pope multiple times, reflected on the emotional connection and impact of the trip, underscoring the profound effects of faith and community during such significant moments.
We felt that it was the right thing to do is to continue going. Obviously, we didn't know what we were going to go into when we got to Rome, but it winded up being a very spiritual trip.
As a Catholic, I was upset because Pope Francis was our Holy Father, but he was also someone I had the honor to meet four times over the years.
