"DOWNTOWN BROOKLYN - THE DOWNTOWN BROOKLYN Partnership, the city Department of Small Business Services and MASARY Studios on Friday unveiled a new light art installation along the block-long storefront windows of the former Macy's building on Fulton Street. "In Every Transition, A Pattern" will be on display through March 16. The artwork uses a structure installed in the interior of the storefront to create a kaleidoscope of colored lights on the windows and sidewalk, in a dynamic pattern driven by audio recordings from the nearby area."
"Music, conversation, traffic, pigeons, crosswalk signals, subway sounds and more were compiled in a sound score programmed to control the lighting. The project was funded by Small Business Services through its Public Realm Grant program. The program's goal is to enliven commercial streets in the evening to help address nighttime safety concerns, celebrate local culture, reconnect divided communities and cultivate innovation. To select MASARY for this project, Downtown Brooklyn Partnership invited over 50 artists, designers and lighting professionals to apply."
