"Carter Shocket stated, 'They kind of felt like they happened and then they were over, like it wasn't a long-lasting kind of project. It was just a flash-in-the-pan kind of thing.'"
"Shocket expressed, 'I think, like people were really excited by the idea of being a part of a festival and showing trans artists. It has grown exponentially, way, way bigger than I had actually even thought was possible.'"
"Shocket noted, 'I think a lot of times, definitely not intentionally, trans artists are reduced to a single story, or we're expected to make art about specific experiences.'"
Trans Art Fest in New York City celebrates trans creativity through a grassroots, community-driven program. Organized by trans artists and allies, the festival features over 120 trans artists in 12 exhibitions and more than 20 events, including workshops and screenings. Founded by Carter Shocket, the festival aims to create lasting connections among trans artists and curators. The enthusiastic community support highlights the importance of representation and empowerment for the transgender community during challenging times.
