Park Slope celebrates Irish Pride at Brooklyn's 51st St. Patrick's Day Parade * Brooklyn Paper
"It's up to us to remember these people, repeat their names. They're not just names on a memorial. These are our friends. These were our New Yorkers. These were people who lived here with us. It's up to us to remember September 11 and repeat these names so the next generations know who these people were and what happened that day."
"I'm 70 years old, and this means a lot to me to be here. How much I wish my parents were still alive to see this, because they would have been very proud."
Brooklyn's 51st Annual St. Patrick's Day Parade took place on March 15, transforming Park Slope emerald green with Irish American celebrations. The parade began at 1 p.m. at Bartell Pritchard Square with Grand Marshal Pix 11 reporter Magee Hickey and nine aides leading the procession. The ceremony included a solemn dedication to September 11 victims, with parade co-chair Mary Hogan emphasizing the importance of remembering those lost and sharing their stories with future generations. The pageantry featured bagpipers, marching bands, Irish dancers, local politicians, and community groups proceeding along 15th Street, Seventh Avenue, Garfield Place, and Prospect Park West, drawing enthusiastic crowds dressed in shamrock green and waving Irish flags.
