A devastating four-alarm fire erupted just before 12:30 p.m. at a three-story brick building in Flushing, Queens, spreading through at least five apartments and a ground-floor commercial space. At least four people died, including one child, with as many as ten others injured. Three people jumped from upper floors while another was rescued from the second floor using a portable ladder. More than 230 firefighters responded to the scene, with six firefighters sustaining injuries. Two firefighters were briefly trapped when stairs between the second and third floors collapsed. The fire took over two hours to bring under control, causing heavy damage to the building.
