A warehouse fire in a more-than-century-old building on Van Brunt Street in Brooklyn destroyed nearly 900 pieces belonging to Lanoba Design, a Red Hook furniture store. The blaze ripped through dozens of small businesses and art studios; the cause remains under investigation. The owners, Lars Noah Balderskilde and David Singh, lost rare Danish furniture from the 1940s and '50s that had been refurbished. Thousands of gallons of water used by firefighters ruined the pieces. Numerous customer orders and deliveries were lost, leaving owners emotionally distraught but determined to continue, and local community support has been overwhelming.
