Sen. Chuck Schumer harshly criticized Department of Homeland Security head Kristi Noem and Homeland Security Advisor Stephen Miller following the Border Patrol shooting of nurse Alex Pretti in Minnesota, demanding their removal and congressional testimony. Schumer called the officials liars and rejected Miller's description of Pretti as "a would-be assassin" and Noem's labeling of him as engaged in "domestic terrorism," saying he saw no aggression in the video. Schumer accused Trump administration officials of lying instead of seeking truth or showing sympathy for the dead. He vowed Senate Democrats would withhold support for DHS funding until the department is overhauled and warned that failure to split DHS from a spending package could prompt a government shutdown.
