These Are Brooklyn's Dirtiest Neighborhoods: Data
"For all the jokes about rats, garbage and gridlock, New York City isn't quite as grimy as its reputation suggests. The study found the city receives roughly 3,728 sanitation complaints for every 100,000 residents. But Brooklyn shouldn't break out the confetti just yet. The study found the city's most complaint-heavy ZIP code is right here in the borough."
"That ZIP code-which spans the bustling, mostly residential neighborhoods of Crown Heights and Bedford-Stuyvesant-logged 7,664 complaints per 100,000 residents. Three other Brooklyn ZIP codes cracked the list, based on sanitation complaint volume: 11238 covering parts of Prospect Heights, Clinton Hill and Crown Heights; 11237 spanning Bushwick, plus portions of Williamsburg, Ridgewood and Maspeth; and 11222 encompassing the Greenpoint area."
"On the flip side, the cleanest NYC ZIP code, 11040 in New Hyde Park, clocked in with just 176 complaints per 100,000 residents."
New York City's sanitation complaint rate of 3,728 per 100,000 residents is lower than several major U.S. cities, contradicting the city's grimy reputation. However, Brooklyn contains the city's most complaint-heavy ZIP code: 11216, spanning Crown Heights and Bed-Stuy, with 7,664 complaints per 100,000 residents. Three additional Brooklyn ZIP codes rank among the highest complaint areas: 11238 covering Prospect Heights and Clinton Hill, 11237 spanning Bushwick and surrounding neighborhoods, and 11222 in Greenpoint. In contrast, the cleanest ZIP code is 11040 in New Hyde Park with only 176 complaints per 100,000 residents.
