"Police are searching for a tractor-trailer driver who struck and killed a woman crossing a Brooklyn street early Friday, then fled the scene, according to the NYPD. Department officials said the woman was walking across Eastern Parkway and Schenectady Avenue in Crown Heights around 5:20 a.m. when the driver of the 18-wheeler hit her while traveling eastbound. The driver kept going after the crash, police said."
"Emergency medical workers pronounced the woman dead at the scene. She was not immediately identified pending notification of her family. Police were reviewing surveillance video to figure out the truck's make, model and license plate, officials said. This year through Sept. 14, more than 70 pedestrians have been involved in traffic collisions in the NYPD's 71st Precinct, which includes Crown Heights, Wingate and Prospect Lefferts Gardens, police data shows. One pedestrian was killed in that period, up from zero by the same point last year."
