Working Families Party endorses Reynoso for congress, breaking with Mamdani * Brooklyn Paper
"These are unprecedented times and Antonio is the best candidate to fight for working families in Washington D.C. and build a movement strong enough to defeat the forces of authoritarianism. Reynoso is deeply trusted by our movement."
"Since my time as an organizer and from the beginning of my time in public office, we have worked together on critical issues for working families in this city like affordable housing, universal childcare and supporting our immigrant communities. Together, we will take our fight to Washington, stand up for Brooklyn and Queens, hold the line against Donald Trump and deliver real wins for the working class."
The Working Families Party endorsed Antonio Reynoso for the Democratic primary in New York's 7th Congressional District, one of the city's most left-leaning areas. Reynoso competes against Assembly Member Claire Valdez and Council Member Julie Won to succeed retiring U.S. Representative Nydia Velázquez after three decades in Congress. The WFP cited Reynoso's commitment to working families and his ability to combat authoritarianism. Reynoso has maintained a long relationship with the WFP since his 2013 City Council campaign and subsequent elections as Borough President. The endorsement marked a split with Mayor Zohran Mamdani, whom the WFP previously supported for mayor, as Mamdani had urged support for Valdez instead.
