Bending Spoons acquired AOL from Yahoo with funding from a $2.8 billion debt financing package that will also bankroll future acquisitions. The purchase price was not disclosed. CEO Luca Ferrari estimated AOL has 8 million daily and 30 million monthly active users, calling it one of the top-ten most-used email providers. Ferrari pledged significant investment to help the product and business flourish and emphasized long-term stewardship. Bending Spoons has an aggressive acquisition record, including WeTransfer and Evernote, and AOL carries a four-decade history of rise, peak and decline under multiple owners.
