The brand began as a 1997 shaved-ice stall in Zhengzhou founded by Zhang Hongchao and expanded rapidly through franchising after Zhang Hongfu joined a decade later. Mixue went public in Hong Kong and posted $376 million in net profit in the first half of 2025, contributing to the founders' combined $8.1 billion fortune. The first U.S. shop will occupy 2,100 square feet at 266 Canal Street under a 10-year lease.
