Raymond Orozco, 22, was killed while trying to break up a fight involving a female friend. His family held a vigil at Lake Merritt to honor him, releasing balloons with messages. Orozco was remembered fondly by family members for his kindness and ambitions of becoming an EMT or firefighter. Despite police identifying a person of interest, no arrests have been made. Orozco's parents express their pain and desire for justice while carrying on his legacy of service and helping others.
The balloons -- we don't know where they are going. We are just letting them go, releasing them. I believe Raymond will get one of those balloons," said Daniela Ruiz, Orozco's mother. "...he never carried any bad with him. He carried the good. Because my little brother was so good," Raymond's sister Sabrina told the crowd. "His next career that he was trying to aim for was to become an EMT or firefighter. Those are all things that he did because he believed in service and helping others..." said Roy Orozco, Raymond's father.
Orozco's parents say San Jose police have not made an arrest. But that police have identified a person of interest. They want justice for their son.
Even though I'm mad, I will carry on his legacy and continue to help others. That’s what he would have wanted."
