Former Antioch mayoral candidate charged with murder 10 years after wife's death deemed a suicide
"Our family has not given up hope,"
"My mother did not deserve what happened to her. We have been seeking justice for her for the past 10 years."
"The note was on a laptop on the end of the bed. And it was not authored on that laptop... on some other device,"
"We have a long road and a big fight ahead of us. And we are not going to stop until we see this person that I'm ashamed to call my father behind bars,"
A 66-year-old former Antioch mayoral candidate was charged with murder in the September 2015 death of his wife, Brenda Joyce Leon, after the case was reclassified from suicide. The Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Cold Case unit concluded Leon did not die by suicide and arrested her husband last Thursday. Digital forensic analysis indicated the alleged suicide note found on a laptop was authored on a different device. The suspect had lived in the Antioch home where Leon died for the past decade. Leon’s adult children and legal counsel say they will continue pursuing justice and court proceedings are pending.
