The coroner's bureau identified the man Monday as Billy Grant, who lived in another part of Oakland. The fatal collision happened about 6:29 p.m. Sunday in the 6000 block of Claremont Avenue. Police said Grant for unknown reasons was walking in the southbound lane of traffic when a car driving southbound struck him. He was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced deceased."
"The driver of the car, a 21-year-old Berkeley woman, remained at the scene and was cooperating with investigators. Police said it does not appear that drugs or alcohol were factors in the collision. The investigation into the death is continuing. Anyone with information may call police traffic investigators at 510-777-8570."
