2 more Toronto speed cameras cut down, as Ford urges city to do away with 'tax grab' | CBC News
"More Toronto speed cameras were found cut down on Tuesday morning, only two days after the Parkside Drive speed camera was cut down for the seventh time in less than a year. Social media posts show that the speed cameras on O'Connor Drive, west of Coxwell Avenue, and Lakeshore Boulevard, just west of Woodbine Avenue, were both cut down overnight. In an email to CBC, Toronto police confirmed the incident on O'Connor Drive and said officers are investigating. They provided no further details."
""Get rid of the speed cameras or I'm going to do it," said Ford. Ford told reporters that he is "all about public safety," but that he is against taxing over the death of people. "If you want to slow down traffic at school, you put the big huge signs, big flashing lights, crossing area, people will slow down," he said. "Why don't we put a police officer with a radar gun there every once in a while?""
Multiple Toronto automated speed cameras were found cut down overnight at several locations, including O'Connor Drive and Lakeshore Boulevard, days after the Parkside Drive camera was cut down for the seventh time in under a year. The Parkside camera was installed in 2022 after a speeding motorist killed an elderly couple in a five-vehicle crash. Toronto police confirmed the O'Connor incident and are investigating. City officials condemned the vandalism and asked the public to contact police with information. Premier Doug Ford called the cameras a "tax grab" and urged their removal, suggesting signs, flashing lights, and occasional police radar instead.
