StatsCan to delay September trade data as U.S. government shutdown continues | CBC News
"The agency says it relies on data from the U.S. Census Bureau to track Canadian export volumes, but hasn't received any of that information since the U.S. government shutdown over a funding impasse in Congress at the start of October. As a result, Statistics Canada says it won't be able to publish Canadian export and import data for the month of September as planned on Nov. 4."
"The agency says it won't be able to report monthly international trade results until the government shutdown ends, but the statistics bureau might have to consider other options if the disruption persists for an extended period of time. Other key figures such as quarterly gross domestic product by expenditure and balance of international payments rely on inputs from the monthly trade figures."
Statistics Canada will delay publishing September international trade data because the U.S. government shutdown has stopped delivery of U.S. Census Bureau trade inputs. The agency has not received U.S. export data since the shutdown began at the start of October. The planned November 4 release of Canadian export and import figures for September cannot proceed. Monthly international trade results cannot be reported until the shutdown ends, and the bureau may consider alternatives if the disruption continues. Quarterly GDP by expenditure and the balance of international payments depend on monthly trade inputs. Special export estimates to the United States may be produced for third-quarter GDP, but these would carry larger-than-normal revision risk.
