"Everybody experiences back pain at some point or other, so when Maggie Noone felt a twinge in her back and her right side while out walking with a friend on holiday in March 2023, she put it down to her Birkenstock sandals being an unsuitable choice of footwear. But once back home in Ireland, the pain didn't subside and at times got worse, going from the lower back into the pelvis."
Maggie Noone experienced exhaustion, pain and constipation and did not suspect ovarian cancer. In March 2023 she felt a twinge in her back and right side while walking on holiday and initially attributed it to unsuitable Birkenstock sandals. The back pain persisted after returning to Ireland, at times worsening and radiating from the lower back into the pelvis. Though in her mid-50s and still menstruating, she developed stomach bloating and assumed the symptoms signaled the onset of menopause. Support from loved ones helped her endure treatment and recovery.
