Chinese Grand Prix: Max Verstappen claims every lap in Red Bull is 'like survival' after qualifying eighth
"Every lap is like survival. I mean, we lose so much from the car at the moment around here. Plus, I cannot push at all, because the car doesn't let me. So that's why I don't really feel in control of the car. I mean, it's just really not how it should be."
"A little bit, of course, from the engine side, but that's not probably the biggest side. I mean, we lose so much from the car at the moment around here. Plus, I cannot push at all, because the car doesn't let me. So that's why I don't really feel in control of the car."
"From lap one of this new regulation, I've not enjoyed this car, that's for sure. I cannot push. I am not enjoying it at all. It's just very..."
Max Verstappen qualified eighth for the Chinese Grand Prix, nearly a second behind pole-sitter Kimi Antonelli, with Red Bull experiencing significant performance difficulties. Verstappen described driving the car as survival mode, stating he cannot control it and lacks the ability to push. He attributed the issues partly to engine performance but primarily to car setup problems around the Shanghai circuit. Neither Verstappen nor teammate Isack Hadjar scored points in Saturday's sprint race. Verstappen has been critical of F1's new hybrid power unit regulations since their introduction, expressing frustration with the 50-50 combustion-electrical split and uncertainty about the car's potential performance.
