Ram Has Canceled Its Electric Pickup Truck
""As demand for full-size battery-electric trucks slows in North America, Stellantis is reassessing its product strategy and will discontinue development of a full-size BEV pickup," the automaker said in a news release. "Ram is improving market competitiveness and growth while maintaining pricing power through products, services and electrified offerings." The electric Ram truck, expected to be a competitor to the Ford F-150 Lightning and Chevrolet Silverado EV, had already seen several delays."
"But Ram isn't abandoning electrified trucks entirely. The brand said today that the range-extender Ramcharger, which will use a gas-powered V6 to recharge its battery, will go on sale next year. Confusingly, it will now be named the Ram 1500 REV instead. "This vehicle will set a new benchmark in the half-ton segment, offering exceptional range, towing capability and payload performance," Ram officials said in a statement."
Stellantis canceled development of the battery-powered 2026 Ram 1500 REV, citing slowing demand for full-size battery-electric trucks in North America. The electric Ram had been delayed repeatedly after debuting as a concept in early 2023, with target dates moving from 2025 to early 2026 and mid-2027 before cancellation. Ram will sell a range-extended Ramcharger that uses a gas-powered V6 to recharge its battery, and that vehicle will be renamed the Ram 1500 REV and go on sale next year. Stellantis positions the model to deliver strong range, towing capability and payload while addressing electrification strategy challenges and weak brand sales.
