Tesla will end production of the Model S sedan and Model X SUV, with final units built next quarter. The Fremont factory will be repurposed to build Optimus robots. Tesla will continue supporting existing Model S and Model X owners for as long as vehicles remain in use. The company framed ending the programs as an "honorable discharge" while shifting toward an autonomy-focused future and encouraged prospective buyers to order now. The Model S debuted in 2012 and helped make electric vehicles broadly appealing, while the Model X was the second major program. Sales of both models have flatlined despite refreshes.
