"According to Automobilwoche, the iX3 has garnered over 3,000 orders on its home market in the six weeks since its debut, making it more popular than the combustion-powered X3 in the same period. BMW was already worried that it wasn't going to be able to meet the volume of orders it initially anticipated for the iX3. Now that it's proving so popular, its task of starting and then ramping up production to meet demand is even more difficult."
BMW has received over 3,000 orders for the iX3 in Germany within six weeks, outpacing the combustion X3 in the same period. The iX3 is built at a new Debrecen, Hungary factory with 150,000 annual capacity and will begin European deliveries in spring 2026, followed by the United States in summer. BMW invested new motors, electronics and batteries to make the iX3 its most advanced and unusually efficient large EV. BMW faces production and ramp-up challenges to meet unexpectedly strong demand and is preparing additional production in Mexico with allocation not yet finalized.
