The Porsche Cayenne EV's Development Moved Fast, Thanks To Skynet
"This project was the first in which we went directly from digital complete vehicle testing to pre-series production,"
"Engineers sent virtual prototypes on digital test drives as early as the design phase,"
"The results of the digital tests were later verified with test bench tests of real, physical components."
"In reality, only humans can add the final touches."
Porsche will unveil its first electric Cayenne at the end of the year alongside the combustion model. The Cayenne EV uses the 800-volt Scalable Systems Platform (SSP) shared with the electric Macan. Development relied heavily on computer simulations, virtual reality and artificial intelligence, enabling a direct shift from complete digital vehicle testing to pre-series production. Early prototype construction was eliminated, saving about 120 physical prototypes from being built and destroyed. Digital tests were later verified with physical test-bench evaluations. Virtual road replicas included the Nürburgring Nordschleife. Human engineers continue to validate and finalize results, though automation is increasing. Development time shortened by roughly 20%.
