In the first half of 2025, Volkswagen Group reported selling 465,000 electric vehicles, a 47% increase from the previous year. Global deliveries increased by 1.3%, totaling 4.4 million. Strong sales in South America and Europe offset declines in North America and China. In Europe, EV sales surged nearly 90%, while in Germany, Volkswagen became a market leader. However, the company faced a 33% drop in electric vehicle sales in China due to competition, and Audi saw declines in the luxury segment.
"Gains in South America and Europe more than compensated for the expected declines in China and North America," said Marco Schubert, member of the extended VW Group Management Board.
In Europe, Volkswagen saw sales of electric vehicles up nearly 90% compared to the same period in 2024.
However, in the luxury market, companies are still struggling. At Audi, which is owned by the Volkswagen Group, sales dropped.
The company saw its electric vehicle sales drop by a third in China as it lost market share to domestic companies.
