"Monday was an excellent demonstration of the kind of talent Cade Horton has in his right arm. He could be the ace of the Cubs staff right now, and he moves the entire team up a level when he goes every fifth day."
"Cade Horton got the start and was terrific, giving up only a run-scoring groundout in the bottom of the frame. Horton eventually went five and struck out a whopping 10 hitters on Monday."
"Scott Kingery gave the North Siders the lead for good with a two-run homer in the top of the 2nd. Matt Shaw singled home another later in the inning to expand the margin to 4-1."
The Cubs earned a 5-2 victory over the Guardians in a spring training game played under the lights in Goodyear on a hot Monday night. Chicago's offense struck early with Miguel Amaya's RBI single in the first inning, followed by Scott Kingery's two-run homer in the second that gave the Cubs the lead for good. Matt Shaw added an RBI single and Kevin Alcántara doubled home a run in the fifth to extend the lead to 5-1. Cade Horton delivered an exceptional pitching performance, allowing only three hits and one run while striking out 10 batters over five innings. Colin Rea closed out the final four innings, allowing just one run to secure the victory.
