"The official first workout date for the club is still nine days away, but you know these guys are training just about year-round, and there's no better place to do it than at the Cubs' facilities in Mesa, Arizona. So you see lots of guys showing up pretty much from the flip of the calendar, and then we get morsels doled out by the folks kind enough to be on site and sharing them."

The Chicago Cubs will open Cactus League play with an exhibition against the White Sox on February 20 at Sloan Park. The official first workout date remains nine days away, though many players train year-round at the Cubs' Mesa, Arizona facilities. The equipment truck from Wrigley Field has already arrived and multiple players have been spotted at camp. Cade Horton, Ben Brown, Justin Steele, Daniel Palencia and Porter Hodge have been seen working, while Matt Shaw and James Triantos are taking outfield reps in addition to infield work. Visual updates and early workouts signal active preparation for Spring Training.
