The 50/50 blend of Amaro Montenegro and mezcal, known as the "Managers Meeting," is expanding beyond industry circles to bar menus. Bar innovations include the Frozen M&M at Shinji's in New York, featuring mezcal, Montenegro, and grilled-orange juice, offering a unique experiential shot. Beverage director Jonathan Adler aims for novelty, while Corima's lead bartender Edward Hardebeck creates milk punches emphasizing the blend's smoothness. This trend illustrates a growing acceptance and creativity surrounding classic cocktail combinations in the modern drinking culture.
"We wanted to figure out a shot that would be just as amazingly experiential, and something people had never had before," says Shinji's beverage director, Jonathan Adler.
The final product, a frozen mold imprinted with the Shinji's logo, comes served in a metal dish with a handle so you can slide the sorbet-like shot into your mouth.
For Hardebeck, the M&M was an obvious building block: It's "very smooth and drinkable, and it combines well with sweet elements like milk."
The 50/50 combo of Amaro Montenegro and mezcal, sometimes referred to as a 'Managers Meeting,' is now making its way onto bar menus.
